In a sad turn of events, some persons suspected to be protesting members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party have destroyed parts of the Azaiki Public Library in Bayelsa State.
According to Daily Trust, the dastardly act occurred after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) upheld the Supreme Court’s ruling and declared Douye Diri as the winner of the governorship election in the state, on Friday, the 14th of February, 2020.
The enraged protesters had first descended on the premises of Governor-elect Diri, demolished cars and other properties before proceeding to the library built by Professor Steve Azaiki’s foundation, where they destroyed books and electronic gadgets, and took away phones belonging to the staff of the library. Other places around the state were also affected.
What could have warranted such violation of a deified space is what we’re still trying to make sense of. Share your thoughts on this in the comment box below.
