Calling on the poets!!!

There’s an ongoing poetry writing competition, sponsored by the Embassy of Ireland in Nigeria, you should enter for.

The competition is in celebration of Bloomsday; an annual celebration of the life and works of the great Irish writer James Joyce (1882 – 1941). It is observed every June 16.

Submission Guidelines

  1. The theme of the competition is Isolation
  2. Compose a poem of no more than 40 lines
  3. Entrants must reside in Nigeria
  4. Send your poem with the subject line: BLOOMSDAY COMPETITION to abujaembassy@dfa.ie

The deadline for submission is the 16th of July, 2020.

The prize is 50,000 NGN and a publication in Brittle Paper.

Best of luck!

Although it isn’t stated in the Call for Entries, most competitions don’t permit multiple entries, so I’d advise against it.

Yes, it can. The phrase “…no more than 40 lines” permits that.

Good day. Please are we allowed to go broad on the theme ‘Isolation’ or is it to be based on recent happenings?

I don’t see anything restricting your creativity, from the public notice. You can also reach out to the organizers @irlembnigeria on Twitter for more info.

      Best of luck.

    Hello
Does the poem have any rhythmic pattern to follow
    Or just free verse?

How would the winners be notified please. Also, is it necessary to have included the blooms day competition as the subject of the mail.
