One of Nigeria’s very popular actress and film maker, Chika Ike recently released her book, BOSS UP.
Now, I expected it to be the regular celebrity tell-all, but I was disappointed. This book WOWED me right from the first page till the end!
It is easy to read with enough real life experiences; BOSS UP is a page turner. Of all the many self-help and tell-all books out there, this one tells you right from the first page to put your chin up and make lemonade from the lemons life throws at you.
Despite having self-confidence issues from her childhood, Chika learnt how to deal with fear early on and come out on top. When her early marriage ended up being abusive, she didn’t let that deter her. She showed up and took control of her life the right way. One could say that she had some practice, due to the fact that she was already making money at the age of sixteen from modelling and acting; but then it is no mere feat to pick yourself up after constant emotional, physical and verbal abuse, achieve your dreams and inspire others too.
While reading this book, it was like Chika was addressing me when she said:
Do it scared! Do it tired! Do it confused! Just do it!
I truly didn’t want this book to end. I was proud of the author like she was my close friend or sister. Everything Chika wrote resonates and I can’t wait to put it into action.
Finally as a BOSSED UP woman, I wrote a love letter to myself; all the things I love about myself, how far I have come, how I want to achieve my dreams, and all the ginger I need to go for it.
