The list of nominees for The 2018 Alternative Nobel Prize is out and voting has begun.
Just shortly after making this announcement about Chimamanda, we have learnt that she is among the nominees for this year’s Alternative Nobel Prize. Out of the 47-name list, only three African Writers (2 Nigerians and 1 Kenyan) were longlisted and they are Chimamanda Adichie, Nnedi Okorafor and Ngugi wa Thiong’o.
The Alternative Nobel Price is an international award to honour and support those offering practical and exemplary answers to the most urgent challenges facing us today. Four authors from the 47 nominees will be shortlisted (3 from public votes and 1 will be nominated by the Librarians), and then 1 winner will eventually be chosen.
Since the establishment of this prize in 1980, only one Nigerian, Nnimmo Bassey (2010), has emerged as a winner.
Voting will end on the 14th of August and the results will be announced on the 14th of October.
