9 Things You Should Know About Dating a Writer Without Going Crazy

Back in the day, I knew a girl who was crazy over writers and I used to wonder why. I found out eventually, that writers are actually likeable, especially the witty ones. If you are one of those attracted to them, here are 9 things you should know about dating a writer:

 

1. Writers are Spontaneous

Inspiration or ideas can come at any time, and wherever that happens, they will need to pause and take note. It doesn’t matter how deep into a conversation you are at the time.

2. You’ll Very Likely Have to Take Care of Most Bills

You see the thing is, when dating a writer, there are times when you will have be the sole financier of the relationship, especially if they write full-time. That’s because writing is not yet very lucrative in these parts, so the pay is not quite regular.

3. For Your Own Good, Be a Reader

If you love words, it will go a long way in helping your relationship with a writer flourish. The love has to be genuine sha, they can tell when it’s not (because you’ll have to help read through a lot of their stuff).

 

4. Watching Movies with Them Can Be Annoying

Who wants to hear the many other ways the script could have been written (especially while the movie is still going on)? Not me. Some storylines can be weak and lazy, but allow me enjoy the ‘film trick’ in peace, plis dear.

5. Their Social Life is Almost Non-existent

Martha won’t agree with this one, but we all know the truth. Stringing words together is mentally tasking enough, writers don’t need the extra stress of dressing up and mingling.

6. Choose Your Words Wisely

… because anything you say might be use against you.

7. Writers Need Space

Many writers prefer writing in solitude. This also means that you will get ignored a lot, not because they don’t care, but because when the creative juice starts flowing, you better not stop it.

8. Writers Get Their Revenge in Print

To them, their pen is their weapon. So chances are that they will get back at you by throwing shade in their work.

9. They Aren’t the Most Fashionable

Chimamanda’s husband won’t agree with this one, but there’s an exception to every rule, abi?
