If you are like me, when you think about needing a lifestyle change (and I go through this phase a lot), the first place you think to look for advice is a search engine. And this helps, but for a short while. Why? Well, they all offer advice on what to do, without addressing the root factors towards achieving a lifestyle change (or lifestyle shift as Lika Ahonsi, the author of this book puts it).
Up until the weekend I downloaded this book on my OkadaBooks app, I will never have thought of myself as one to read a weight loss book and enjoy it. But then, it’s because this is not just a weight loss book, it is a book aimed at persons desirous of a lifestyle change towards better overall health, physical appearance and more (and I know that that includes almost everyone).
Lika’s Lifestyle Shift by Lika Ahonsi is a book with an objective “to help you start your lifestyle shift journey.” And when Lika says in its pages, “I have lived the struggle. I have been there, and I have excelled! I am aware of the challenges that come with deciding to embark on a lifestyle shift”—I believe her, I believe every single word of it. Why? Because everything about the book from the experiences she shares to the challenges is one that I too have faced way too many times. It’s like she understands.
But reading from a writer who understands is not the only feeling you get from this book. Soon as you start to realize that you like this author who you have never met but feel like you know too well (and who knows you so well as well), you start to feel like she is guiding you on the path to follow in this journey. This book covers all the root factors that too often stops you (or makes you inconsistent) when taking that lifestyle shift with suggestions from the author’s experience on how to walk around this issue. Simply put, with Lika’s Lifestyle Shift, it appears that you get a lifestyle coach for a bargain price.
Look, I really wish I could spill a long page of all the lessons that I learned from reading this book, but what good will offering “spoilers” be? Also, this is a book you need to experience yourself, and in the words of the author. But some of my favorite inclusion in this work is the segment on skincare, dealing with the fear of going to the gym, discussion on needing rest, and well, fashion and dealing with that new physical appearance (like she could read my mind and offer just what I need to know).
Lika’s Lifestyle Shift is backed with a lot of knowledge and experience. Lika Ahonsi is experienced. She has gone from the girl starving herself from needing to lose weight before going to university and at other times in her life being so scared that she became underweight to a woman who clearly understands and has defined why she wants a lifestyle shift and have, as she puts it, “the body I wanted.” Lika, in this book, doesn’t just tell you, “do this and it will be good in the end.” Rather she says, “do this, here is why and here are the results you could get.”
Lika’s Lifestyle Shift is a book I recommend completely. Read it in its entirety the first time. Then, go back to it and to specific sections as regularly and as the need arises. One great thing about this book is its length that you can surely read it all in a weekend and be pumped to begin putting bits of the lessons learned and begin this lifestyle shift journey in a new week.
