One of our missions is to help children discover the fun and joy in reading. Children and Teenagers should never feel like they are being forced to read.
When we started OkadaBooks, we wanted to put books in the hands of every Nigerian through mobile devices. We still do but we cannot do this without you. We need mobile devices that these books will be read on. So, if you have an Android or iPhone you no longer use please donate them to this drive. We have exciting stories to share in schools with these devices. It doesn’t have to be a known brand or iPhone X. We will install the OkadaBooks App on it as long as it works and the screen is fine.
We’re looking to get 50 devices to start with.
Why Digital Books?
Digital books are easier to move around. We organized a book drive in the past and it wasn’t easy to move the books across schools. With Mobile devices, we can carry over 10,000 books in a mobile device.
We’ve Started Already
Last week, we visited Ken-Ade Private School to read a few children’s books (on the OkadaBooks’ App) with the pupils in primary 6 and also discuss lessons learnt from these stories.
Some of the books read includes:
1. The Might of Guardian Prime (Comicbook by ComicRepublic)
2. A Collection of Children Stories by Samson Agboola
3. Hero Kekere by ComicRepublic
The devices were not enough. We had over 4 pupils sharing a device in a classroom without AC or NEPA light. We believe reading will be more fun and comfortable if we had more devices.
