Running wildly, and steeped in burning sweat
Darkly arrested by fear, and entirely fettered,
By thoughts darkened by the outcome of
an audience with the assailant right behind.
An alley materialized up ahead – holding an exit
To the green earth of safety – thank goodness!
Fueled by pounding hope at the sight of liberation
I inched harder, faster, closer to salvation.
But the beast materialized, solidly proud, before me –
Big, black, snarling, salivating; I halted, stoned.
Its eyes, the color of amber, pointed out
The path to hell; its teeth, whiter than white,
Razor-sharp, were bared ravenously.
More saliva dribbled down its stout chin.
Clearly, the chase was over; the end here.
I knelt on the hard pavement – a resigned soul.
The creature strutted over, and reached for me.
My orbs rolled shut as its chilling teeth pierced and
Ripped away soft flesh; the searing pain was instant;
Continuing eternally as I cried voicelessly;
Slowly consumed in bits by Satan’s pet…
…and then I awoke…thrashing about…
…what a nightmare!
