Restitution is an age-long doctrine in the Christendom where a man that marries two wives is not allowed to attain leadership roles in the church.
Mr. Williams was a devoted Christian. He lived his life to the standard of biblical principles, but he married two wives. After been exposed to his church doctrines and its biblical reference by his pastor, he felt remorseful for his past and decided to do the needful.
The desire to restitute became paramount when the church committee from the headquarters considered his zeal and contribution to the church and decided to bestow on him the highest title of a member (Deacon) if only he had one wife based on the church doctrine.
Mr Williams conceded.
He paid off the second wife and her two children, (a boy and a girl) and even though it led to cold war in the family, he stood his ground in order to take up the leadership role in his church. His first wife was happy with this decision as it granted her total control of the house.
However, on a fateful day, Mrs Williams (first wife) was having guilty conscience.
Her ex-lover was threatening her to give him his property that was in her care. She was so disturbed and continued to have sleepless nights until she confided in her pastor.
She got to the pastor’s office tensed and disturbed.
“Mrs Williams, what happened? Are you alright?” the pastor asked!
Her voice was cracking. She became a sudden stammerer when she wanted to speak.
“There is no situation that is too big to explain”.
The pastor said!
Hmmm! She exclaimed. She summoned courage to tell her pastor that two of her three children were not for her husband.
The pastor was astonished,
“Whose children are they”? He asked
“My husband’s official driver”, she replied!
The pastor kept mute for a while and asked,
“Who among the three children”?
“My first two children, the boy and the girl” she answered.
“What!” The pastor exclaimed.
“So, your last born, the sickle cell patient is the only child of your husband?”
“Yes” she answered.
“Please help me to beg my husband to forgive me because the biological father of the two children wants his children back.”
The woman was remorseful. Hmmm!
“I can’t believe what am hearing”
“How do you want me to tell your husband when he sent away his second wife and children thinking he had made a mistake he needed to correct”?
So, everybody has an ugly past to share
“The more you look the less you see”.
“What do I do about this issue”? the woman asked.
“We will go to your husband to explain the issue, I pray he listens because its pathetic to hear that children over 30years of age are not his biological children.”
“I only hope and pray he will be mature about it.”
Deacon Williams was crushed after he heard and decided to look for his two children and their mother.
His effort to get ahold of his second wife and children proved abortive as the woman had died of frustration and depression.
His son tried to raise his younger sister to become a medical doctor from the money he realized from robbery.
A while later, the second wife’s son came to his father’s house with his gang, not knowing it’s his father’s house. Immediately he set his eyes on his father and his step mother, he didn’t waste time in pulling the trigger and shot them dead. His step mother died instantly while his father managed to get to the hospital.
The nurse quickly called the doctor on duty. Lo and behold it was his daughter. She shut the door in anger and walked away. The nurse on duty begged her to forget about the past and attend to her father, after a lot of pleading, she accepted but as she was approaching her father’s ward, her phone rang and it was her elder brother that called from the police station.
She dropped the call and drove off to the police station. Few hours later her father died because
he was not attended to. The Nigeria Medical Association frowned at this act of negligence and doctor Deborah’s certificate was seized.
Sola learnt his lesson in a hard way because he was sentenced to life imprisonment and never knew that his father had bequeathed all he owned in his name.
It became known to others that when we try to correct the past it leads us to another mistake; the past is behind us which we can only learn from while the future is ahead of us. No saint without a past and no sinner without a future.
