Countless times I am told I am the future.
Countless times I am told we are the leaders of tomorrow,
My country is fatigued from sorrow,
Lending our hearts countless times to leaders so now there’s a need to borrow,
We have changed. Our goals, or votes but the situation still remains the same,
With 36 states, yet our state is stagnant and our plates empty.
Praying religiously for change, and worshiping the leaders who have done more than plenty.
Society weeps and order goes into a frenzy, It’s hard to love your brother and country when your leaders can’t sing the national anthem correctly.
Guide our leaders right but our leaders can’t guide us right.
Help our youth the truth to know but we’ve been spoon-fed lies.
A one eyed man is king in the land of the blind,
But our society instead alienates the one eyed and blinds to be cast aside as naive and unwise.
What an old man can see sitting a young man cannot see standing but where a young man can go walking an old man can never go running.
We are the change. We are the catalysts.
We cannot be told we are leaders of tomorrow when we cannot be lead today,
We are told we are lazy when the system has failed,
We are told we are crazy when society is insane.
We cannot be called leaders of tomorrow if we cannot rise up,
We cannot be said to have a voice if we cannot stand up to say,
We are change. Regardless of race, irrespective of gender, disregarding your financial or social status or the service you render,
Whether student, whether teacher, our country should fly,
Because change begins with you and I
