‘Why?’
Gloria asked Dave, her ex-boyfriend now. They had been dating for over two months until she caught him passionately smooching her course mate in a dark corner at night. The girl was fair-skinned, sharp small eyes that looked captivating, high pitched voice (unlike hers that sounded gruff) and curvy.
‘I just got excited over her,’
Dave replied with a shrug, a bored look plastered across his face. No trace of remorse at all. Not even guilt.
Dave bit his finger, spat out and said in a dismissive tone. ‘You’re too skinny. She’s got what you don’t. I like girls that are…you know… shapely
Few weeks before he had told her that he loved her skinny figure. Told her she was pretty. Now, they were breaking up over a curvy lady. She wasn’t feeling pretty. She felt petty.
Quietly, Gloria stood up and left the canteen.
That night, after taking her bath, she stood in front of the large mirror in her room staring at her naked reflection in disgust.
She had large eyes, small breasts, flat buttocks, dark skin like charcoal, no curves anywhere, no nice obstruction. Just straight to the point.
Gloria crumpled on the floor in tears feeling so small. Discarded like trash and undesirable.
