We live in a time when stress and loneliness are some of the major issues people struggle with. Feeling stressed out is something people of all ages, professions, and backgrounds are facing daily. But, the problems don’t stop there since stress is one of the major causes of numerous additional health problems.

This is why we all need to try and find the mechanisms for fighting stress and loneliness. And writing is said to be a great activity for reducing stress. If you’re not sure how it works or whether you should try it or not, just keep reading.

Here’s how writing can help you reduce stress and loneliness.

1.     Self- Analysis

Sometimes the hardest thing for us to do is to face our emotions. We let them pile up inside us and create a tension that causes us to feel stressed out.

Because we don’t process our emotions, we are unable to face them, and overcome our issues.

Writing can help us:

  • take a deep look inside of use
  • define how we feel
  • process all our emotions
  • get those emotions out to the surface

Instead of pushing them down, we’ll be analyzing our emotions and thus making it a lot easier to deal with them and process them.

And, the better you write, the better you’ll be feeling about yourself.

2.     Critical Thinking

When we’re tired, under a lot of pressure, or stressed out, we can’t even think straight. Our mind is a mess and we can even experience physical pain such as headaches.

We must allow our minds to unblock and start thinking straight. Writing can make this happen.

While we’re writing, we’re actually:

  • calming ourselves down
  • clearing our head
  • sorting out our thoughts
  • creating a mental reorganization

As a result, we’ll be able to use critical thinking when facing any obstacles and issues. We’ll find it easier to face problems and easier to solve them.

And that’s what we need to reduce stress.

3.     Creativity Boost

Loneliness can be a result of a lack of motivation and will to socialize. It’s understandable that not all human beings are equally social, but everyone needs basic interaction with others.

To fight loneliness, you can use writing, since it will:

  • boost your creativity
  • make you inspired
  • make your day fulfilled
  • give you the desire to share your work with someone

When you’re writing, you’re talking to yourself and you’re creating a whole new world. This could be the boost you need to start feeling less lonely and to even reach out to the people you like.

The best part is, you can share your writing with people online. Use Write Scout, Studyker, or Grammarly if you need help with writing and enjoy the feedback you get from others.

4.     Self-Development

Many people feel lonely and depressed because they haven’t achieved as much as they’d want to or they feel less valuable than others. While we believe every person matters the same, it can be hard for people to believe it.

Luckily, writing can help you grow and develop on a personal level, and here’s how:

  • research for your writing and you’ll learn something new each day
  • use different writing tools to improve your skills
  • learn about and improve your writing process
  • activate your mind and employ it every day

“By doing something useful and rewarding such as writing, you’ll be boosting your confidence. As a result, you’ll start feeling better about yourself, and reduce the stress you’ve been feeling” says Maria Faber, a psychologist and writer at Subjecto.

Final Thoughts

Writing is a creative, inspiring, rewarding, and fulfilling activity that can make a huge difference in the way you feel about yourself. Use it to explore your emotions, express how you feel, and continue improving every day.

Start writing and track down the changes we’ve listed above that are bound to happen to you during this beautiful process.
