I reach out for the stars
but it seems they ain’t in my reach
I shouted out to speak but it seems I’ve lost my voice
Tears rolled down my eyes but who would hear my screams?
The more i step further the farther am drown away
In this battle of life it seems like an eternity to win
I took my book to read but they shooed and laughed at me
I took a step to school and aback they hissed at me
Insisting its not my place ,it isn’t mine to go
Boldly i fought again, with a fierce grin on my face
Taking a step forward, they languished in anger again.
But i was determine to rule
To conquer the battle myself, its time for me to fight, Am tired of hiding in the dark,
i took a book to read ,they showed me the children to feed
I took a step to school they said the kitchen is my place
I went further again, they gave me utensils to clean
i wondered what’s my crime as i pondered and cried to sleep
Then i realized what’s my crime
I’m a woman!!! That’s my crime
And in the world of men , I’ve got no rights to speak
Enslaving my self all my life , dreaming of the life i wished to live
Like an eagle I’ll fight the battle, like a lion i’ll write my fate, like a queen I’ll rule my world
Being educated is my right ,making my destiny is my right
I’ll fight till the last drop of my blood
I’ll shout till my voice echoes the world
I’ll grasp the paper and pen in my hand
Being a woman isn’t a crime
Being a woman is my pride
Am a northern woman with a crown
Being educated is my right.
