Those days and Now

Karanta Cikin Hausa - Read in English

Those days with little or no technology
simplicity came with it’s own kind of difficulty.
We had no WhatsApp to ask what’s up?
Those days we conveyed sweet messages and posted pictures in letters to be delivered to our loved ones with likes expressed in letters in response.
Now?
Now our sparse communication
weak show of affection and aim to please pictures go to our status.

Those days we enjoyed late nights with friends and family with amazing games and tales by moonlight.
Now?
Now we stay eyes glued to the screen
fingers tapping away on our mobile device
addiction steady rising.

Those days you heard the latest legit gist at the palm wine spot,
from the market women and
from stream walks.
Now?
Now you hear rumours that
stir up reactions, fatten pockets
and ruin people all online.

Those days we learnt morals and basic values to help differentiate good from bad at home.
Now?
Now just work your way through YouTube
“don’t forget to subscribe” you’re told
before you learn all and more
from typing and watching the result.

Those days made now,
Now holds snippets of those days.
