Many Nigerians have become frustrated and have lost confidence in the entire Nigerian system.
The older generations of disoriented Nigerians have buried their heads in the sand, resigned themselves to fate and generally seek to enhance their lives by either perambulating from one church, mosque or prayer house of prosperity preachers to the other, in search of miracles, signs and wonders or they try to survive by singing praises and begging for crumbs from the naira stuffed pot bellies of low men in high places and licking their ass which is full of bull shit.
What previously sustained many Nigerians psychologically, especially the youths and made it possible for them to circumvent reality was that they had dreams of “making it” but the possibilities of actualizing those dreams are becoming bleaker by the day. This has resulted in a state of total despondency in every facet of the Nigerian society.
There is a wide spread perception that most people at the helm of this country’s political, economic and social strata got there through fraudulent means like election rigging, nepotism(“man know man”) as well as bribery and corruption; excluding of course few positive role models like the immortal Dora Akunyili, Wole Soyinka, Muritala Muhammed and Chukwuma Soludo.
Nigeria is however saturated with negative role models like Babangida, Obasanjo and Okorocha who are incapable of fashioning out the kind of national or cultural identity that can contain the forces of European and American cultural imperialism as well as the sick aspects of Western modernity that subject many Nigerians and Africans to those foreign influences.
Experience has often shown that many Nigerian youths identify with external foreign influences that have subconscious effect on them that affect their self-value negatively and makes them to fanatically identify with European football clubs and their soccer stars.
Many Nigerian youths feel trapped inside the country and desperately seek opportunities and avenues to escape from Nigeria to Europe by all means, including risking their lives by travelling across the Sahara desert through Libya (where many are enslaved) and finally across the Mediterranean sea where many drown while in transit.
